Innovatieve Glastuinbouw in Lansingerland
Horti Science staat voor dé innovatie in de glastuinbouw. Het Horti Science District is het gebied in Lansingerland waar bijna 200 glastuinbouwbedrijven, 250 toeleveranciers, onderwijs- en kennisinstellingen gevestigd zijn en met elkaar en in de regio samenwerken.

Als burgemeester van de gemeente Lansingerland ben ik er voor onze inwoners, ondernemers en verenigingen. Maar ook voor de vele bezoekers aan Lansingerland. Trots ben ik op ons ‘Horti Science District’ en het fijne woon- en werkklimaat dat onze mooie gemeente biedt. Het dorpse karakter met de 3 kernen en 2 buurtschappen maken het bijzonder, gezellig en aangenaam. Onze positie midden in de metropoolregio Rotterdam en Den Haag maakt ons aantrekkelijker voor bedrijven van wereldfaam. Voor u en al deze mensen zet ik mij in voor onze veiligheid, samenleving en naamsbekendheid. Er is maar 1 Lansingerland. Daar ben ik trots op!

Home of Horti Science
On Thursday, January 27, 2022, the Lansingerland municipal council approved the Lansingerland Home of Horti Science vision and the associated implementation plan. With the vision until 2030 and the implementation plan, Lansingerland profiles itself as an innovative greenhouse horticulture municipality. With the greenhouse horticulture sector, Lansingerland and the Greenport West-Holland cluster have an important role and position worldwide in the field of modern and innovative greenhouse horticulture. Investment
The municipality will invest a total of more than 3.5 million euros over the next three years to improve the economic climate of the Horti Science District, according to the vision. Entrepreneurs, scientific knowledge institutions and the municipality are joining forces to fully utilize the available potential. The aim is to further develop the current clustering of progressive greenhouse horticulture activities. Together with the education sector, they actively contribute to digitalization, sustainability and technological development.

Alderman: “Investment is necessary to keep up and stay ahead in a rapidly changing market. I am proud that institutions such as Wageningen University have committed themselves to Lansingerland to work on solutions of the future. To feed the world, and make crop protection organic and sustainable.”

Historical position
The greenhouse horticulture sector historically has an important position in Lansingerland. Stories and experiences of gardeners often go back generations. Knowledge and craft have been passed on for more than 100 years. The sector is the job engine of the region, with around 8,500 jobs. The progressive horticultural technology and the opportunities that entrepreneurs see and seize make the area attractive for research institutes, knowledge centers (such as WUR and Delphy) and abroad. The export value of the sector is estimated at 1.1 billion euros.

Attractive business climate
Lansingerland offers an attractive business climate for food producers, floriculture and knowledge centers. Thanks to its versatility, technology and knowledge centers, the Horti Science District has an excellent global reputation. Horti Science District is the area in Lansingerland where almost 200 greenhouse horticulture companies, 250 suppliers, educational and knowledge institutions are located and work together with each other and in the region.

Vision belongs to all of us


The Horti Science vision 2030 (pdf, 10 MB) is a joint product. Many ideas and contributions were received through interactive sessions, expert meetings, sounding board groups and a residents' evening. The vision therefore has broad support in Lansingerland and the region. Various relevant parties participated: companies, neighboring municipalities, residents, education, Wageningen University & Research Greenhouse Horticulture & Flower Bulbs (WUR), VNO NCW Oostland, Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague, InnovationQuarter, Province of South Holland, Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands, Horticulture Youth Oostland, Greenport West -Holland and world market leaders Anthura, Koppert, Biological Systems and Bayer Crop Science.

Cabinet recognizes the importance of greenhouse horticulture
Lansingerland is pleased that the new Cabinet also recognizes the importance of greenhouse horticulture. The Rutte IV Cabinet states in its coalition agreement that “the sector is a potential leader in the more energy-efficient and circular production of high-quality products.”
